So I was back.. or am back in london. My rents had some time off.. and I just needed to get away from coding this flipping project I’m doing at the moment so I booked a ticket and off I went..
I did a few different things through the days but one of the biggest things I did, in my mind was turn upto a event put on by a group called ‘artisan’ which is basically a network of christians in the creative industries.
I have a friend who found out about artisan the same time as me. She does events management specialising in Carnivals and outdoor events (her course never has a dull moment!) and she’s a student in london itself, so she’s been egging me to come to one of these prayer meetings for awhile and since I’ve come off the leadership of the Christian Union down in Bournemouth I thought I’d take her up on it.
It was a awesome chance to meet people from right across the board. They had people from theatre, PR, Fashion, Fine Art, Music, Print Media, TV, Radio and Web Media, the really interesting thing was there focus on ‘unity, humility and prayer’ in an industry which tries to make everything larger than life all the people there had a real drive to have God given a word rather than themselves. They had a brief talk on the london fashion week and the people involved in that, aswell as difficulties in pushing for more fair trade and organic products to be designed.
They later broke us off into our individual professions.. funny thing was I was the only one tied into anything to do with the Web. Maybe that said something more about the field? I dunno, but halfway through a guy called Ben turned up who had studied in Plymouth. He had just finished designing the iPlayer for the BBC which was pretty epic.. and he took my details to maybe talk about some work experience!
Other than that I was talking to DJ’s about the Nightclub stuff I do in Bournemouth and people involved in various Charities about their experiences. But it was just a really eye opening experience to be treated on a equal footing by some really successful individuals (aswell as some less succcessful individuals) in these industries who shared the same passions, struggles and faith. The Christian Union is good like this but this was taking it to another level really.. so I’ll be trying to make a few more meetings in future. Having a home in London suddenly seemed a lot more interesting! The crazy thing is it just isn’t london but this thing is a worldwide movement. It’s not supported by anything but the people who attend and it’s been a real challenge to me to see what I can do with the time I’ve got left at Uni to make the most out of what I’ve been given.
